Michigan requires a state-certified pistol safety course before you can apply for your Concealed Pistol License. At Hilltop we teach the USCCA curriculum — a nationally recognized program that meets Michigan's training requirement — covering both classroom instruction and live fire on the range. Our instructors are USCCA-certified, with deep firearms, security, and military and law-enforcement experience, and they teach in a patient, welcoming, no-judgment setting — and every member of our staff is CPR, AED and First Aid certified. Whether this is the first handgun you've ever held or you've been shooting for years, you'll leave ready.
Michigan requires a state-certified course of at least eight hours — a minimum of five hours in the classroom and three hours on the range, where you'll fire at least 30 rounds. Complete it and you'll earn a training certificate that's good for five years and satisfies the training requirement on your CPL application. Classes start at 9:00 AM and run until we're done — usually around 5:00–5:30 PM, depending on class size — with a 45-minute to one-hour lunch break (lunch is on your own). Want a little extra time? We stick around at the end to help anyone who needs it.
Here's what to plan for — and what we take care of. Don't own a handgun yet? We rent pistols; just ask when you reserve. We provide the targets, and there's coffee, water and snacks to keep you going. You'll also get a day-of-class discount on firearms, ammo and accessories, and there are no hidden fees — the price you see is the price you pay.
To apply for a Michigan CPL you must be at least 21, a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, and a Michigan resident for at least six months. You're welcome to take the class before you turn 21 — you just have to be 21 to apply. Michigan is a "shall-issue" state: once you've met the requirements, your license is issued by your county clerk. Not sure whether you qualify? Give us a call and we'll walk you through it.
Reserve your seat for an upcoming class — seats are limited and they fill up. The class is $100, due upfront to hold your spot. It's non-refundable except for medical or special circumstances (handled case by case), and you can reschedule once before you'd forfeit your deposit.
